Biochemistry 2, L1 definitions

Watson-Crick Base Pairing
model used to describe the hydrogen bonds that form between nucleobases in dsDNA and dsRNA, allowing a normal helical structure to form
Fidelity
a measure of how accurate a newly copied sequence is; changes depending on the polymerase used
Hoogsteen Base Pairing
a variation on nucleobase pairing, where the bases are held together by hydrogen bonds in the major groove; forming this type of base pairing only allows the partial closure of the 'finger' domain of the polymerase, reducing the efficiency of the reaction
Steric Gate
the domain of the DNA polymerase allowing the identification of dNTPs and (r)NTPs, ensuring the correct monomers are incorporated
Exonuclease Domain
the error correction domain of the DNA polymerase, catalysing the removal of the incorrect nucleotide(s) by moving the primer DNA stand to the exo domain
